10 Things to Do Near Laurel Lake Cabins

Guests ask us all the time what to actually do while they’re here. This is the honest list — the stuff our own guests keep coming back for, straight from us.

1. Chase the Moonbow at Cumberland Falls

Cumberland Falls is the big one — a 68-foot waterfall just 20 minutes from the cabins, and one of the only places in the world where you can regularly see a moonbow (a rainbow made by moonlight instead of sunlight). Even outside of moonbow season, the falls themselves are worth the drive any time of day. We put together a full guide with 2026 viewing dates and tips — check out our Moonbow Guide before you plan your trip.

2. Spend a Day on Laurel River Lake

This is your home-field advantage — the cabins are just 5 minutes from Grove Marina, with Holly Bay Marina and Spillway Beach also close by. Clear water, quiet coves, and cliff-lined shores make it easy to spend a whole day out there boating, fishing, or just swimming. See our full attractions map for marina locations and directions.

If you’re bringing your own gear, a kayak or a good life jacket makes a lake day a lot easier.

3. Hit the Trails

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park has a real trail network right around the falls — Eagle Falls Trail, the Pinnacles Overlook, Dog Slaughter Falls, and the longer Moonbow Trail if you want to make a real hike of it. Most of these are moderate and doable in a half-day, and the overlooks are worth it even if you don’t go far.

A solid pair of hiking boots and a small daypack go a long way out there.

4. Explore Downtown Corbin

Downtown Corbin is small but genuinely fun for a rainy afternoon or an evening out. The Harland Sanders Café and Museum is the actual original Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant — Colonel Sanders developed his recipe there, and it’s a quirky, easy stop. Right downtown, the Pinball Museum of Corbin is Kentucky’s largest, with over 50 playable machines and ice cream inside. And if you want something more active, Tomahawks Axe Club runs guided axe-throwing pits a few blocks over.

Full details, addresses, and more shopping and sights are on our Attractions page.

5. Grab Dinner Locally

Skip the chains if you can. The Wrigley Taproom & Eatery and Brick Oven are guest favorites downtown, and there are good barbecue and steakhouse options around town too. Our Attractions page has the full list with addresses, in both Corbin and Williamsburg.

6. Chase Some Adventure at Sheltowee Trace

If you want something with more adrenaline, Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort runs guided whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and zip lining trips near Cumberland Falls. It’s a great way to spend a full day if you’re up for something more active than a hike.

7. Catch a Show

Corbin Arena hosts concerts and events just minutes from the cabins, and Austin City Saloon downtown is a solid bar-and-grill option if you’re looking for a night out with live music.

8. Take a Day Trip to Big South Fork Scenic Railway

About 40 minutes away in Stearns, KY, this is a real train excursion through the Big South Fork area — a nice full-day option if you want to see more of the region beyond Cumberland Falls and the lake.

9. Fish Right From Your Cabin

You don’t have to go anywhere at all for this one. Every cabin has catch-and-release fishing right on the property pond — genuinely one of our guests’ favorite low-key activities, especially with kids.

10. Do Absolutely Nothing

Honestly? A lot of our guests just stay put. A porch, a fire pit, a pond view, and nowhere to be — sometimes that’s the whole point of coming out here.
